Editing an Inter-Disciplinary Press (and Imprints) volume is both challenging and rewarding. Volunteers from Inter-Disciplinary.Net events may step forward during the development meeting, on the final day of the event. Editing is, essentially, peer-review of the chapters submitted for publication in an Inter-Disciplinary Press volume. Editing duties include: Peer Review of chapters; communicating with the volume’s authors to secure a print-ready copy of the author’s material; Creating the Table of Contents (with a template provided); Creating an Introduction (with a template provided); and Creating the Volume Descriptions (giving the volume a title, creating back cover and brief marketing content, editor’s bio, and key words, using the provided template).
Inter-Disciplinary Press provides all editors with an Editor’s Guide, templates for completing the Intro, ToC and volume descriptions, and full support via email or Skype to lend a hand through the process of editing. Volunteers should be willing to dedicate from 30 minutes to an hour each week toward the completion of the volume in order to meet deadlines. Communication skills with co-editors (if working with someone) and authors are essential.
